SUMMARY:Fundraising Ceilidh Dance for Whitstable Jack-in-the-Green
DESCRIPTION:Get dancing at a fund-raising ceilidh in aid of the 51st Whitstable May Day Jack-in-the-Green procession! \n\n\nWhether you’re a complete beginner or super experienced\, this fun social dance night will be led by expert dance callers Kerry Fletcher and James Gaunt\, who will get you up and dancing to great live music from the fabulous Climax Ceilidh Band. If you’ve never been to a ceilidh (or barn dance) before\, give it a go and you’ll be hooked! The live caller walks you through the dance and tells you what to do – so no skill needed\, and no partner required\, though feel free to bring one. \nAnd as it’s Hallowe’en weekend\, why not wear your spookiest outfit? There’ll be a prize for the scariest dancer! \nThe annual Jack-in-the-Green procession\, a revival of an old May custom\, celebrates its 51st consecutive year in 2026. Colourful characters including Morris dancers and musicians lead Jack in all his greenery through the town to the castle\, with a herd of hooden horses and other beasts guiding the way. This ceilidh is to raise funds to allow us to continue to put on this joyful event! We are a team of volunteers so your support is greatly appreciated. \n  \nVenue: St. Marys Hall\, Umbrella Centre\, Oxford Street\, Whitstable\, CT5 1DD \nDate: Saturday 1 November 2025\, 7.30—10.30pm \nAdmission: £12 full\, £8 unwaged. \nBar\, including real ale 🍺 \nContact: the organisers at whitstablemaydaymorris@gmail.com or 07703 639720

SUMMARY:Bennett & Knight presents CHOUETTE
DESCRIPTION:  \nBennett and Knight perform their music as part of a wonderful quintet \nFollowing their 2022 sold-out theatre debut\, Songs from my Soul\, Bennett & Knight return to the stage with CHOUETTE. A musically wry\, owl’s eye view of today’s world presented through song and spoken word. \nCHOUETTE has storytelling at its heart; Ginger reflects on growing up in ‘80’s Lewisham and on today’s affairs in a way that is often funny but always deeply personal and emotionally honest. Whilst\, Frances’s compositions draw on a variety of musical influences to illustrate these unique stories and provide a rich auditory canvas for Ginger’s intriguing lyrics. \nGinger Bennett reaches out to her audience with warmth and humour. Her spontaneous\, edgy and topical chat blends perfectly with finely crafted song-writing and a brilliant five-piece band. Inspired by luminaries like Donny Hathaway and Gregory Porter\, Bennett & Knight’s songs range from ‘Undoing’ exploring the dark legacy of slavery \, to the romantic whimsy of Daisy Dance’s unseen and unrequited love and their touching tribute Lewisham’s Mr. Pink. \nCome ready to ponder life\, laugh and restore your soul with some stunning new music. \n“One of Kent’s great secrets’ (Jazz on the Beach)” \n“… So\, so thoroughly talented’ (BBC Radio Kent)” \nGinger Bennett – Vocals \nFrances Knight – Piano \nMatt Miles – Sax/ Flute \nAlex Keen – Upright Bass \nJonathan Ward – Drums \nWebsite: www.BennettandKnight.com \nYouTube \nhttps://youtu.be/xhuVJUnTtAs?si=Tzd_WiYSmd5eQN5i \nhttps://youtu.be/IDsrSh_2kQk?si=9pqTvE3m5q1G1LZ5 \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJlADkJixKY&list=PLNXds3jk4f6ChKfd7NwT9LEvVYqK9Wv8L \nGinger Bennett \nGinger hails from South – East London and has been performing in and around SE UK since 2003. SUMMARY:The Trouser Trumpets #BuyTheUmbrella Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a raucous\, brass-fuelled night of live music and dancing as The Trouser Trumpets blow the roof off the Umbrella Centre! Expect high-energy tunes\, big horns\, and an even bigger atmosphere. \nAfter The Trouser Trumpets\, we’re keeping the energy going with the Austerity Disco – a no-frills\, all-thrills party powered by community spirit and unstoppable grooves. \nThis isn’t just a night out – it’s a night filled with fundraising for our #BuyTheUmbrella Campaign. \nAll proceeds go towards the #BuyTheUmbrella campaign\, raising vital funds to help the community purchase the Umbrella Centre building and secure its future as a thriving\, independent space for everyone. \n  \nClick the link below to the #BuyTheUmbrella fundraising page: \n#BuyTheUmbrella Fundraiser \n  \nTHE TROUSER TRUMPETS: \nHailing from Whitstable\, UK\, The Trouser Trumpets are an original musical comedy troupe and danceband straddling the criminally neglected gap between Jazz\, Music Hall\, Vaudeville\, and Stand-Up. They’re as much performance as they are party! \nFrom Bonzos to Zappa\, they channel a wild tradition of eccentric musical genius\, but don’t mistake them for your average novelty danceband with vocal refrain. Their set is a glorious mash of musical absurdity\, brass-driven grooves\, and unpredictable comic flair. \n“To describe The Trouser Trumpets is slightly more difficult than painting the taste of water” – and yet\, once you’ve seen them\, you’ll never forget them. \nExpect blaring horns\, questionable choreography\, and a night of full-throttle fun. Dance\, laugh\, and lose yourself in the joyful chaos! \n  \n  \nAUSTERITY DISCO: \nThey’re loud\, they’re loose\, and they’ve got lyrics that’ll make you smirk – Austerity Disco are not your average rock band. \nFrom the band’s eponymous song “Austerity Disco” (a cry for nations oppressed presented from the point of view of an anonymous oppressor) to the whimsical “Marjorie Stalker” (a tale of tight rope walking and the usefulness of alcohol) the band like to have fun and the lyrics are (probably) nothing to be taken too seriously as long as the music rocks and grooves. \n  \nThe debut albums from Austerity Disco – a four piece alt rock outfit from the Garden of En-gar-land with a sense of justice and a sense of inhumour.\nFrom the barely concealed anger of the eponymous “Austerity Disco” to the 1980s cop-show inspired “Rosco and Geoff” there is something here for everyone. \n  \nAusterity Disco are Tony Hernandez (Vocals/Guitar) \nMatt Smith (Lead Guitar) \nCharlie Place (Bass) \nRobriguez Hendriks (Drums). \nThey don’t take themselves too seriously\, and they don’t expect you to either — just turn up\, tune in\, and enjoy the show! \n  \nGet ready for gritty grooves and tongue-in-cheek anthems – Austerity Disco are here to crank up the volume and the vibes

She is now channeling her experiences into a cathartic musical journey\, weaving tales of love\, loss\, and rebirth through her haunting melodies and poignant lyrics. \nDulcima isn’t just a songstress but also a sustainable fashion designer. Every performance sees her adorned in her own handcrafted creations\, each dress a wearable piece of art that tells its own story. Her music\, like her fashion\, breathes new life into the discarded and forgotten\, transforming unwanted textiles into stunning bespoke gowns. \nFrom busking on Canterbury’s streets to gracing Glastonbury’s stage\, Dulcima’s journey has been anything but ordinary. Dulcima’s music and fashion intertwine\, creating a multi-sensory experience that’s as unique as the artist herself as she embarks upon a solo project conveying her side of the last ten years. \nLINKS \nInstagram \nFacebook \nSpotify \nNANCY OKAI \nNancy Okai is a singer-songwriter based in Ramsgate. Her music is influenced by a wide range of artists including Lianne La Havas\, Daughter\, and Matt Corby to name a few. Her second EP ‘VII’ released in 2017 chronicles feelings of discovery\, change\, love and loss. It presents an artist exploring her sound\, taking musical inspiration from time spent alongside a variety of artists over the years. Nancy Okai’s sound can be described as a mix of alternative pop and soul with a hint of folk\, but she ultimately leaves it to the listener to decide. \nLINKS \nInstagram \nSpotify \nSKYE DUO \nSkye Duo are a soulful\, jazzy originals duo based in Kent.
