The Whitstable Umbrella Community Centre is able to serve the community thanks to its wonderful and industrious volunteers.
People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give give something back to their local community and connect with others who need support, for others it is the social aspect that appeals – a place to integrate with your locale and make new friends, for some it is an opportunity to improve their employability; to learn new skills and build on their knowledge. Whatever the reason you choose to get involved, volunteering is a rewarding and (sometimes!) challenging experience that will enrich your life.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the following activities:
Stay and Play Helpers
Our stay and play toddler group on a Monday morning is looking for some child-friendly volunteers to lend a hand with set-up, tea making and generally helping out. They run a rota system so you would not need to sacrifice every single Monday morning. If you would like to find out more give us a call in the office.
Thanks to support from SERCO we are able to offer our community “Brolly Bus” to local groups and charities. This allows people who might not otherwise have the means to get out often to experience some wonderful days out. We are always looking for volunteers with a clean driving license who would be willing to drive our 15 seater minibus on such journeys. These trips are usually no more than 7 hours in total. Due to insurance stipulations drivers must be aged between 25-70 years. If you would like more information please contact the office.
Community Fridge Co-ordinators
We are joining the Community Fridge movement and will soon be launching the Whitstable Community Fridge. An accessible space where local businesses can leave excess prepared food and individuals can leave unwanted (But still edible and in date!) fruit, veg and canned goods for others to make use of. If you are passionate about reducing waste and would like to be involved in helping our community fridge to thrive then let us know.
We hold regular fundraising and community events. If you love to plan a party or have a wealth of imaginative ideas on FUN fundraising activities then this could be the opportunity for you!
We know that Whitstable is a creative, diverse and inspiring place and so we are always happy to explore new ideas and activities that you think might be a valuable contribution to the community. If you have an idea for a community project or group and would like to have our help and support do get in touch.
