Bennett and Knight perform their music as part of a wonderful quintet

Following their 2022 sold-out theatre debut, Songs from my Soul, Bennett & Knight return to the stage with CHOUETTE. A musically wry, owl’s eye view of today’s world presented through song and spoken word.

CHOUETTE has storytelling at its heart; Ginger reflects on growing up in ‘80’s Lewisham and on today’s affairs in a way that is often funny but always deeply personal and emotionally honest. Whilst, Frances’s compositions draw on a variety of musical influences to illustrate these unique stories and provide a rich auditory canvas for Ginger’s intriguing lyrics.

Ginger Bennett reaches out to her audience with warmth and humour. Her spontaneous, edgy and topical chat blends perfectly with finely crafted song-writing and a brilliant five-piece band. Inspired by luminaries like Donny Hathaway and Gregory Porter, Bennett & Knight’s songs range from ‘Undoing’ exploring the dark legacy of slavery , to the romantic whimsy of Daisy Dance’s unseen and unrequited love and their touching tribute Lewisham’s Mr. Pink.

Ginger Bennett

Ginger hails from South – East London and has been performing in and around SE UK since 2003. Following a successful sporting career Ginger returned to her first passion, music. See Ginger perform with her Funk and Soul Band Project F, Nine Piece little big band KD Dance Orchestra as well as jazz/soul ensembles under her Team GB umbrella. Ginger’s original music is produced in partnership with Jazz pianist Frances Knight. Their Album CHOUETTE is due for release in Autumn 2025

Ginger has performed at the Margate Jazz and Soul Festivals and is a regular performer at the Canterbury Festival and Pizza Express Live she is known for an intimate style of performance that always involves spirited audience participation and lots of laughs.

FRANCES KNIGHT

Jazz musician/composer/writer, FK began her apprenticeship by playing gigs around London and going on to study at the Guildhall School of Music. FK’s projects have been eclectic and diverse, ranging from jazz and blues through to improvised music and Argentinian Tango. She has worked extensively in theatre, both on the small stage and at the National Theatre.

She has her own record label, Mandeville Records, with tracks played on the BBC, Jazz FM and Europe-wide. Mandeville releases have featured clarinet legend Tony Coe and Stevie Winwood sideman Paul Booth. She has also recorded albums with the late Hugh Hopper of Soft Machine.

Frances is a prolific songwriter who has been awarded a European Musicians Federation songwriting prize.

Tracks from these recordings have been played on the BBC, Jazz FM and Europe-wide. With the late Hugh Hopper of Soft Machine, she released two improvised albums The Mind in the Trees and The Swimmer.
